Another Year Older … Hopefully Another Year Wiser

Dear Journal,

Well it’s that time of year again … I’ll be turning another year older, whether or not I’ve become wiser is a matter of opinion. It frightens me that 30’s right around the corner (thankfully not anytime soon, but it’s lurking there).

I feel like when you’re around this age, people start to think about settling down … starting a family … or buying their first home. Then the pressure from parents or relatives come into play, and you have to hear, “Oh … no girlfriend yet?” … “Oh … still living in that apartment?” … “Oh … when am I getting some grandkids?”

It’s like if I don’t start on those goals, I’ll never accomplish them.

Finding a boyfriend isn’t the easiest thing in the world, I think I have better chances of buying a home first. I still have to come out to my parents, and that scares me to death … I’m afraid of their reaction.

So gone are the day’s when I can stay up until 3 a.m.,  or push my physical boundaries to their limits, or even drink like a sailor. But age does come with some experience and I’ve realized that family and friends (well some of them) are important …..

They’re the foundation of the house, they keep you grounded and provide the stability in your life. I know some may think having them isn’t important, but when it boils down it is.

It may take time to realize it, like me … but they do become important pieces. In the end you know who your real friends are, and they are the ones worth keeping, even if it takes some extra effort because in the end, it usually pays off.

Anyway, every year one of my aunts would mail me a birthday card, she hasn’t forgotten once. As I got older, I thought she would stop, but she hasn’t.

I’ve saved all of them (except 1 or 2 since I can’t find them), so there’s 20+ cards I have stored in my closet.

I never knew what time I was born, so I asked mom the other day. Without much hesitation, she replied with, “02:29 in the afternoon”. She remembers this, but not what she learned in her computer class?

Dad comes walking in hearing our conversation when mom asked him to confirm. Apparently he has this little black book where he writes important life moments.

He flips through it and confirms that it was 02:29 p.m. on a Tuesday. What’s weird was that he said my sister was also born at 02:29 on a Tuesday, she’s 4 years younger than me and was born in a different month, but she was born on the same date as me as well … I mean what are the odds?

It sucks to have the feeling that you’re getting older, that time is running out to do things I still want to do. I keep putting things off, and the next thing you know weeks have passed, then months, then voila .. another year passes by.

I know I have time, but at the same time it feels like I don’t …

I don’t really have any plans for my birthday, I thought I was able to grab lunch with my family on Sunday, but they’ll be in Arizona still. I think some of my friends have their own plans, so I probably won’t get to see them either.

Didn’t want to be alone on this day, but I have to make do with what I have.

So I’ll probably just be by myself on the actual day, get some random MySpace comments for those 2 people who actually remember, but it’s just another damn day right?

Happy Birthday to me I guess ….. I hate getting old, haha.

Quotes Of The Day

- "In the end, every relationship needs maintenance …Whether it’s the smallest gesture …or just picking up back where you left off. The bottom line is that if you care about someone, it’s pretty easy to make the sacrifice."
