My Stupid Wifi Network (Updated)
**Updated the post … its below in red**
I got home yesterday and had to do something quick for work, so I got my work laptop out and VPN’ed into the client’s network. I finished my stuff, turned everything off, and decided to watch the Lakers game (because everyone at work was talking about it and I was curious what all the hoopla was … they’re leading 3-1 now).
So around 09:30 p.m. I decided to go online to read some news with my personal laptop (a Macbook). It usually connects to my network right away, but this time it gave me a message stating it couldn’t find it, “Say what Macbook!?”, I said shockingly.
“Stupid piece of shit router, what the hell?”, as I stood in my apartment dazed and confused. I was getting annoyed because my neighbors decided to play the game of, “Let’s slam our doors really hard”. For some reason I jump or shudder everytime a door is closed hard. It just scares me …
Anyways … I started to play “Troubleshooting the Router”, which was not fun by the way …..
The first thing I checked was to see if everything was plugged in and if the Internet was down … checked and working.
Next I look at the router to make sure everything looks right, etc. … checked and working.
So I’m thinking … maybe it’s a Mac problem … so I grab my work laptop (which is a PC) and try to connect to my Wifi network because it worked earlier. Like my Mac it didn’t find it either, but after 2-3 tries of me trying to connect … it FINALLY connected, but browsing was slooowwwwwwww … dial-up would have been faster.
So I thought maybe it was a setting or all the encryption I setup on the router … so I reset the damn thing with all the factory presets. I set everything up again, but to no avail.
I grugingly walk to my bedroom and connect to the Internet using the good ole Ethernet cable. So there I was … sitting on the floor in my bedroom with two laptops opened, trying to figure out why my wireless network wasn’t functioning. I sign into AIM and notice a buddy of mine was on, but he signed off.
I wanted to ask him about it … so then I see another friend online … but he was away. Damn it!!! So I was getting frustrated and frustrated as the minutes passed by. So I was thinking, why not just turn the thing off and do a power cycle.
So I turn everything off, and went to get ready for bed. I come back, turn everything back on .. and guess what … still no wireless connection. I thought it might have been a hardware problem … but it’s broadcasting its SSID and everything seems okay.
The problem I’m getting is that when I try and connect … the error message I get is, “Connection Timeout”. So I’m thinking my laptop isn’t talking to the router or vice versa because it’s not assigning an I.P. address. I even tried creating a static I.P. with no luck either.
So tonight I’ll be troubleshooting again and I’m going to test if I can connect with NO wireless encryption. If that still doesn’t work … you’ll see a Linksys router being thrown out my apartment window.
“LINKSYSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!”

So I got home yesterday … made dinner and tried to relax while watching Scrubs and wondered how long it’ll take me to fix this network problem. I finished eating dinner, washed dishes, and started my game of, “Troubleshooting the Router”.
I got everything setup, turned my laptop on .. and you know what!? I don’t know what or why … but it just connected to my Wifi network. I sat there dumbfounded and confused why it was suddenly working now … arghhh!
So I browsed a couple of webpages to make sure everything was working … it was. There must have been some computer gremlin lurking around in my router … arghhhhh!!! At least it was working so I turned off my laptop and went to watch a, “John & Kate Plus 8″ Marathon on TLC.
