Freeway Lingo
Traffic … a commuter’s one nightmare, especially here in L.A.. You cannot avoid it … no matter what you do, all you can do is embrace it and battle through.
I do a lot of commuting back and forth between my job, from living in O.C. and working in L.A., it get’s tiring after awhile. It puts a toll on you, especially if you have very little patience to sit there in the car for almost 2 hours on some days.
Thankfully those day’s are gone and my commute has been drastically cut down to 45 minutes to an hour. There was a point that I almost considered moving to L.A., but I love my O.C. too much.
Anyways … ever since I started to drive .. I’ve noticed there is a “freeway lingo” that goes around. Some I made up … some I heard from other people. I used these terms frequently with my co-workers and sometimes people look at me like I’m talking in another language when I use them.
But hopefully it makes more sense whenever I end up talking traffic with people.
So let’s go to the list.
- Flying – When you’re going 60 mph or more on the freeway.
- Example: I was fracking flying on the 5 South, sweeeeeeet!!
- Flowing – When you’re going between 20 – 40 mph on the freeway. You’re not going fast but you’re not just sitting there either … you’re just kind of flowing along, without much stopping.
- Example: Traffic was okay, it was flowing so I can’t complain about it.
- Rubber-necking – When there’s an accident and you’re turning you neck to see it AND the road ahead of you. I HATE PEOPLE WHO RUBBER-NECK!!!! They just got into an accident for goodness sake, it’s not a peep show. As long as they’re safe and an ambulance is there … then just mind your own business and goooo!!
- Parking Lot – When you’re not moving at all and probably walking would be faster to get to your destination.
- Damn fracking 5 freeway!!! It was like a parking lot today, I could have gone faster if I were riding a bicycle.
Those are the only ones that I could think of right now … I’ll probably add more unless you guy’s have some new ones or variations that you use.
Go forth my road warriors!!
