The iPhone SDK … Finally!

After months of anticipation and endlesss nights of wishing and waiting … that day has almost finally arrived! The all mighty iPhone / iPod Touch SDK … can I get a “woot woot”!?!?
So back in October of last year, Mr. Steve Jobs annouced that they would be releasing an SDK for the iPhone in February. Well they missed there goal by a week or so … maybe it’s trend. I’m really excited about the relase and can’t fathom the possibilities that it’ll bring to this device.
It truly will be the phone of all phones, “Hail the iPhone!”. Of course the rumor mill has been churning out the latest gossip and if it holds true, I don’t like what I’m reading at all.
- The SDK will be a limited beta … that’s right, B-E-T-A … the hell Apple? I don’t want some beta version after waiting 5 months for this thing. Yes .. I know it takes time and making sure everything is stable. Fine I’m cool with that.
I just don’t like it when you say, “Hey, you’ll get an SDK in February” but then miss your own deadline AND give us a beta version of it. Apparently the final version won’t come until June when they have WWDC. That makes me a sad panda *starts tearing up*.
- Apple will have the final word on which third-party applications are acceptable for release. That’s a good thing in a way, but will this limit creativity and the many possibilities that this device is capable of?
- Yup … all apps are through iTunes. So no installing any apps through WiFi like those jailbroken applications. I guess this has its good and bad points to it.
- “Developers will also be restricted from interacting with the iPhone or iPod touch Dock Connector, dashing hopes that the SDK could pave the way for new breed of useful accessories, such physical keyboard. However, access to the phone, Wi-Fi, and camera functions will reportedly be allowed.”
So if rumors holds true, I’m guessing we won’t actually see those third-party applications until summer, boo Apple … booooo!!! Maybe we’ll get a … “One more thing …..” to have us forget the semi-bad news, ha! I love it when I hear those 3 words from Mr. Jobs … it only means something AWESOME is coming our way!
I guess we’ll see tomorrow and hope for the best, if not … let’s all play the waiting game together … again for another couple of months …..
