What Men Talk About vs. What Women Talk About
May.18.2007
I was driving to work one morning and listening to STAR 98.7. And they were talking about what men and women talk about. It was an interesting topic because when I actually thought about it while I was driving. They said taht men usually have 4 topics they talk about and women have a variety of topics they go off on ..
So men talk about 4 things:
- Sex
- Sports / Hobbies
- Maybe their jobs
- And dirty jokes
And women have a variety of things they talk about:
- Relationships & Sex
- Celebrity gossip and news; also general gossip in their lives
- Being updated with their friends and their stores (i.e. So how did the date go with so and so? Did you ever find that gift for your boyfriend?)
- Their boyfriends or husbands
- Personal things concerning themselves
- And on and on .. etc. etc. …
A caller called in and said that men were like waffles and women were like spaghetti. When men talk .. they do it by “chunks” of the waffle. Once they finish with one topic, they’ll move onto the next waffle “chunk”
When women talk .. it’s like eating spaghetti. One strand of noodle will touch hundreds of other strands of noodles. (i.e. One topic will touch hundreds of other thoughts that they’ll talk about). One topic can create hundreds of other thoughts that they can talk about.
I was thinking about this and with the people that I know. And it’s partially true. My guy friends .. the few that I have. They do usually talk about those 4 topics, well not really, but close to it non the less. They’ll talk about their jobs (more so than usual) and their hobbies / sports. And my friends who are girls. They do have a tendency to go from one topic to another, even the one gay friend that I had does this ..
.
When men talk .. it’s very simple and straight to the point. No details .. no emotions .. no pizazz. But when women talk .. they have emotion, more details about their story, and it’s like they’re describing the sensation of being their. Like she’s re-creating the experience that she went through for you.
If you were to ask a guy about a date that he went on with his girlfriend .. his response would typically be, “Yeah .. it was fun. We walked on the beach, ate dinner, and then went back to her place to watch some tv“. At most a 2-3 minute conversation and it’s over. No details, no emotions, no pizazz ..
If you were to ask a girl about their date, they would go into much greater detail. “Oh .. he picked me up and brought me flowers. Then we went to this fantastic restaurant, then we held hands walking on the beach .. etc. etc“. Well you get the point .. more details, more emotions, a better story than the guy’s ..
.
Now that I think of it, I wonder how actually talk. Do I talk by “chunks” or do I talk about one topic and suddenly go off tangent and have a million other topics I want to talk about. What do you think?
Also .. for the guy’s .. is it really true that we only talk about those 4 topics listed above? When we talk to our friends .. do we really provide no details and no emotion behind our stories? I guess I’m used to talking to girls and gay guy’s .. lol .. they’re interesting to talk to .. and I always love the details when it comes to stories ..
.
Funny thing is .. change doesn’t happen overnight .. and sometimes .. it never really happens.
